Risk Management Training for RMI Staff concludes with strong commitment to Policy implementation and institutional excellence
On 24th April 2026, the Rwanda Management Institute (RMI), in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning (MINECOFIN), successfully concluded a five-day intensive training on risk management based on ISO 31000:2018. The training marks a significant milestone in strengthening RMI’s institutional efficiency, accountability, and proactive decision-making.
Bringing together staff from various units and offices, the program focused on equipping participants with practical tools to systematically identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could affect the achievement of RMI’s strategic objectives. The training emphasized that effective risk management is not merely a compliance requirement, but a critical driver of institutional performance, resilience, and good governance.
Speaking at the closing session, the training lead facilitator from MINECOFIN, Mr. Francois Habyarimana, commended participants for their active engagement and dedication. He underscored the importance of translating the acquired knowledge into practice, stating that the effectiveness of the training will ultimately be measured by how well risk management principles are embedded in daily operations in alignment with the RMI Risk Management Policy.
Participants also highlighted the practical value of the training. Mr. Eric Niyonkuru noted that the sessions enhanced their ability to anticipate and respond to risks, particularly through the use of tools such as risk registers and structured monitoring mechanisms. The training’s hands-on approach, including case studies and group discussions, enabled staff to move beyond theory and apply risk management concepts to real institutional contexts.
In her closing remarks, the Director General of RMI reaffirmed the Institute’s firm commitment to the full implementation and strict adherence to the Risk Management Policy. She emphasized that integrating risk management into all levels of planning and operations is essential for safeguarding resources, improving service delivery, and ensuring sustainable institutional growth.
As the training concludes, staff are expected to use the knowledge gained by embedding risk management practices within their respective units. This is anticipated to strengthen internal controls, enhance accountability, and contribute to more informed and timely decision-making across the organization.
This initiative reflects RMI’s ongoing commitment to building a culture of risk awareness and professionalism, positioning the Institute as a leader in promoting effective public sector management in Rwanda.
